SPEAKER_04

Hi everyone and welcome to today's podcast live. And as usual, I'm joined by my co-host, the amazing Wayne Goodman. Hello, Mr. G.

SPEAKER_03

Hello, hello, hello. How are we?

SPEAKER_04

All good. How are you?

SPEAKER_03

I'm alright. I'm back in the studio, back at home. Yeah. So um, yep, I've got it all set up nicely at the moment, so yeah, I'm very happy.

SPEAKER_04

And how's how's your week been?

SPEAKER_03

It's been alright. It's been good. It's um yeah, yeah, it's been good. So uh very busy uh doing the emails, etc., and uh chatting to customers, and uh yeah, but yeah, very good, very productive.

SPEAKER_04

Cool. Well, we've had some good news. Obviously, uh Harry arrived back last week, so that means he has been uh running print by magic, and Emilio landed back in the UK today, so that was uh extra three weeks' holiday you didn't have planned, but he uh he landed back in the UK today, so as of next week. Remember, anyone that's watching from uh outside the UK on Friday, this coming Friday and next Monday, Alexand will be closed because it is bank holidays because of the uh Easter weekend. So we won't be here, but Emilio will be back in on Tuesday, and print by magic will be running at full steam, which will be really good. Um, and I just want to say uh a couple of things before we start, actually. So thank you to everyone that watched the unboxing deep dive we did on uh Noble Virtues last week. Uh we had a big load in stock, they all sold out. We got more coming in on Thursday. Um, and also those of you that joined us on the live launch last Wednesday. I've got the trailer for that, we'll drop in a bit. Um, but thank you guys for joining us for the live launch. That was um yeah, it was great, really enjoyable. Um, and it it sort of sold very, very well, which isn't surprising. It's such a great trick.

SPEAKER_03

It's in your pocket all the time, isn't it?

SPEAKER_04

It certainly is. I've got my jacket here on the chair, and it is in there. Um, it actually did come out this morning because a customer came in the shop, so I did perform it this morning. Uh, but we've got a question for everyone while we're on the podcast. We'd like to have a question. So the question is this when you are out performing, me and Wayne are going to answer this as well. Do you perform mainly with a regular deck? Do you perform with gimmick decks? If so, how many gimmick decks would you take? And do you or do you perform with a mixture of gimmicked and ungimmicked? Um so let us know in the chat. Yeah, or just gimmick. Do you just perform with gimmick decks? Do you sort of use a new deck for each trick you perform? Um if you're outperforming, or do you use a mixture of both? Um let us know in the chat, uh whether you're watching on YouTube or Facebook, and uh we will let you know what we do as well. But there's a bit of housekeeping as well, sent in by Jamie, which is if you are a member of Unlimited, on the 28th of May, uh, which is a while away, a couple of months away, but we've got the amazing Chris Webb doing a studio live. So that's a lecture that will be streamed in Unlimited. It doesn't cost you any more than your standard $4.99 uh monthly subscription. That's happening on the 28th of May. And then the 12th of May, which is a couple of days after the Alexandre Magic Convention, we've got the amazing David Jonathan coming into a live academy. So if you are coming to the convention, David's Academy will be completely different to the lecture he's doing at the convention. Um, David's always also doing another lecture while he's over here at the Magic Circle. Once again, it will be both different to the convention and different to the academy. So um that will be all good. Uh so let me have a look. So, oh, a few questions uh sorry, a few answers coming in already. Um we've got uh Graham Wizardo says he performs with a mixture of both. Phil Jester, I usually uh use normal cards uh with a couple of additions, and I use my own deck. Uh Liam said, Oh, this is the amazing Liam Levanon said he uses a regular deck in stack, um, and sometimes edge mark decks. Nice. Um yeah, a lot of people say they're using a mixture. Um someone said my latest decks are Cyclone.

SPEAKER_03

Nice.

SPEAKER_04

So I have a straight deck and a gimmick deck, very nice. Um so I will say what what's your take on this, uh Wayne?

SPEAKER_03

Because it kind of depends on what I'm doing mainly, but I've got my close-up case in front of me here. Um when I'm working, I generally allow myself one gimmick deck and one. I I use a regular deck for almost every trick, yeah. But I do have one gimmick deck on me at all times. Now, I might swap it out during the course of the evening if I'm doing tables, um, because I like tables to get different experiences. I might um yeah, swap it out in between doing the walk-around and the reception at a wedding, um, depending on what it is. But I mean, looking in my case right now, um, so I've got this is uh random or random two, um, which I've written on the bottom random, uh, randomly. Uh I've got knock 'em dead, which is one that I use a lot. Uh Trilogy Extreme, uh, which I keep in its own little little case. And the other one I've got here, I've got a Cyclone deck here as well. I've got two others here that are used a lot. Um, one is my own metaphor, yeah. Which is uh and the other one is um well by Chris Congreave.

SPEAKER_04

Nice. Nice. See, I I think I'm the same as you. When I if I perform at tables, I will do most of the stuff will be with a regular deck, but in that regular regular deck, I've always got uh an STC and an opposing backed card for Chicago Opener. So I I've sort of got a pretty much standard set when I go to tables. So I I pretty much got a standard set. Um, but then I will always have one extra deck on me, and like you, I will change that throughout the evening.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So if I've shown the table that one, if I'm doing a second round or going back, I will switch that deck out. So, and I I've mentioned this time and time again. I've got a section in my case um which I consider to be no-brainers. They're tricks that I can go back to at any point and remember how to do them. There's no, you know, counts or anything else, they're just decks I can take it out and I can go, okay, trilogy, I I you know, I know what I'm doing. Um so I will say my gimmick deck of choice to carry with me at the moment is Imagine. So when I'm starting to do the rounds, if I'm doing a gig, um, which isn't very often nowadays, but if I'm starting to do the rounds, that's the one that I've got on me. And I will say, um, I do have a Tony Antonio deck holster thing, which clips onto my belt. That's where I keep my secondary deck. So it's not taking up any pocket space, it's there if I need it. So if I go into imagine, that's great. I will make a mental note that that table have seen it. Once I've done my rounds, I will then go and switch that out for either trilogy or what happens in Vegas or Roll or something like that, and then that will be for the second round.

SPEAKER_03

The Tony Antonio card holster is a brilliant addition if you're doing something like um big reaction.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because if you're going for the one set of cards, you can just go to your pocket and get them. If you're going for the other set of cards, you can go to the holster and get them, but your arm always goes to the same area to get them. So if somebody's watching you at a table and you do it at the table, and then they watch they're still watching another table, you suddenly don't go to the other pocket to get the other one, you're always going to the same place. And also the deck switching. So I don't just do cards, I do a lot of coin magic, I do a lot of rope magic when I'm working, uh, a lot of interaction with the people. So I might put the cards back in my pocket and then do another trick, and then when it's time to bring out the gimmick deck, if I'm gonna do that, I can go to the holster and bring it out. But likewise, if you haven't got one, if you just go to your other pocket and bring out it doesn't really matter, but you're not just going, oh, I'll put these away and get another deck out. You put some time between them before you bring the other deck into play. Um, yeah, I don't I don't I know some people go, Oh no, you you can't use more than one deck, that's that's not you know the done thing, but I don't see any problem with it if you do it properly, you know. The audience is never aware of the other deck, etc.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I I must admit there's no I'm trying to think now, and I don't think there is. I I don't think there's any trick I do that warrants me or needs me to do a deck switch, i.e., all the additional decks I use have got a reason to be there. I presume roll maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but then I will do let's say I'm doing a trick here with a normal deck of cards. I can put these in my pocket and get rid of them and then do something else, and then go, I will show you one more trick. I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. Imagine you've got three dice in your hands, bring out the other deck of cards, no one's gonna know it's a different deck.

SPEAKER_04

No, that's it. It's it's just and most of the most of the decks that I'm using as additional decks have all got a reason to be an additional deck, i.e., imagine every card's got a different back. Um trilogy, every card's been written on. What happens in Vegas, they're all from casinos, you know. There there's it's an open deck switch. I've got a reason to bring it. Oh, let me show you something with this strange deck. I'll tell you why it's strange. All the all the cards come from different casinos, you know, and it so you've got a reason to bring it in. Um, the only one, but like you said, I mean you're not gonna really need to do a deck switch under fire, you just do another trick in between it if you're switching one blue deck for another blue deck. Um I'm just having a look at some of these.

SPEAKER_03

My close-high case is mostly full of jokes now, you know. I've got the the one here, the B, uh the lights up thumbtips. Oh, Pierce is in here. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Pierce is.

SPEAKER_03

There is one more deck in here actually, and I use this one a lot when I'm working the tables. If I'm gonna sit down at the table, etc., if I'm gonna do something or get the kids together, and that is spread travel, which is back in stock, which is such a good trick. And when I do the multicultural languages groups, uh, which there's a lot in Cambridge, um, this goes down really well because of the the different places that it can, you know, it's from etc. Yeah, yeah, it's such a such a great and strong effect for that. If you haven't so if you haven't seen Spread, go and check it out because it's amazing.

SPEAKER_04

Cool. Well, you're gonna be showing us a trick in a moment. Um so that yeah, there's a few people um commenting. Most people are doing a mixture, which I I thought they would. Um Phil Jester said he has a double backer that he uses uh as a get out of jail free card, um which is always good. I know a lot of people use the invisible deck for that if you know you lost the card, you know, you could you lost the control or whatever. Um let me see, uh we've got someone said uh mostly regular deck, then switch in a gimmick deck at the end. At the moment, it's triple impact. Yeah, nice, yeah. That's a good one. Um I'm interested to see, actually. I've never done it. I know it's my effect. I've never used Cyclone at tables.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it's great. Cyclone's brilliant.

SPEAKER_04

Never, never used it at tables. I've only ever used it in more of a either sitting down with people or a more of a stand-up with a group of people, more of a parlor-y type setting. So if you've used Cyclone tables or close-up, let me know how it went down. Do you do use it tables, Wayne?

SPEAKER_03

I do use it. It's not in this case though, because the last time I used Cyclone um was in a parlor setting. So it's uh behind this curtain, there's a big red box, and that big red box is all my is my parlor show, and uh it's it's buried in there somewhere. But yeah, Cyclone, and I've got the jumbo version in my stage case, which at the moment is up in the loft. Um, but yeah, that's uh yeah. Both of them, both great. That's that's the versatility of a trick like Cyclone, though. If you look at Cyclone or Trilogy, um those kind of tricks, they do play on the close-up scene and on the stand-up and the parlour and the stage. It's yeah, it's great.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh nice, yeah, nice.

SPEAKER_04

How how did you get on, David? Did you fool everyone with it? Or are they all unlimited members?

SPEAKER_03

Please tell me you passed.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, please tell us you passed and got in.

SPEAKER_03

Um what did you do in your audition for the circle, Pete?

SPEAKER_04

Uh I I didn't have to because they came to a convention where I was behind the stand.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_04

So they just took that as my audition.

SPEAKER_02

I did a lecture.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, because you can get in with lecturing. So mine was just performing at the stand and they come over um and uh yeah, just watched watch me perform for 15 minutes and then went, yeah. Um and then uh to get my was it AMIC or M I M C I think I sent in a video of me performing when I I went out to Vegas, this was years ago, me and Spellman, um and we filmed we actually filmed a DVD project.

SPEAKER_03

Um was that my invention?

SPEAKER_04

It was uh my yeah, it was the year we saw you, weren't it?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we met up.

SPEAKER_04

Um but the footage got corrupt. We flew uh Russ Stevens out there with us to film it and everything else, and um the the footage I don't know what happened to it. Either Russ lost it or the the hard drive corrupted or whatever, but we filmed a whole DVD project out there, and there was loads of live performances we'd done on there's one place in uh Vegas that you're allowed to film um without getting permits and everything, and it's this bridge. And I it goes, I don't know, it's from New York, New York, I think.

SPEAKER_03

It goes across it because it's the New York, New York, um, and the Excalibur Bridge that goes over to the MGM, Grand, and what was the Paris?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, so we we filmed loads of performances with lay people on there, and um if you're gonna submit a video to the magic circle for for any sort of membership or promotion, especially at the time, it couldn't be edited, it had to be straight through one camera, this, that, and the other. So I sent off a video, and I think it was to get my AMIC, which is the associate of the Inner Magic Circle, um, but then I got awarded by the president the M I M C, which is member of the Inner Magic Circle. Um, yeah, so that that was a that was a long time ago. Long time ago. Um David said uh it works really well and it fooled uh the magicians like it fooled Wayne when he first watched it.

SPEAKER_03

I saw Navy Niges uh comment and was like, I hadn't got a clue. That that that kicker ending at the end just just swept my feet out because the thing is, there's a few things with it.

SPEAKER_04

The the first thing is when you cut to that first joker, um you genuinely don't have any idea what's going on, you know, but it makes you look more carefully on the second joker, which messes you up even more. Because it's more random, more random, and then when the rest of it starts to happen, um I think it just really throws you off balance. I I think you just sort of relax a bit and and not not that you're disconnected with the effect, but your your mind's not now really following what's happening. And then when you hit them with that final one, it's really hard to backtrack. It's really hard to backtrack what's what's going on. I think there's a lot of um there's a lot of moments in that reveal stage of the effect that really does play with your mind a lot and and the way your mind's working. Um so uh if none of you or if any of you haven't seen Cyclone or know what Cyclone is, because we do seem to speak, someone always brings it up. Let me know, and I'll try and bring the video in. Um, we're joined by my very good friend uh Michael J. Fitch.

SPEAKER_03

Right, Mike?

SPEAKER_04

Who is going to see Copperfield's final show? Wow. In Vegas. So it's next month. David Copperfield has announced that he is leaving his residency where he's been for 25 years? I think did we speak about this last week?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think in 2001 he went uh he went to Vegas.

SPEAKER_04

Um I haven't heard anything, but maybe Michael can answer this. Michael, has he actually announced what he's doing next? Whether he's going somewhere. While I'm waiting for these comments to come in, um I think we should drop a little trailer. Now, I I am very aware that some of you may be listening to this as a podcast, but this podcast does go out live on YouTube on a Tuesday, YouTube and Facebook. So, and the video is kept on YouTube and Facebook. So, if you would like to see the trailer or you would like to watch this podcast rather than listen to it, pop over to our YouTube channel. Michael J. Fitch said uh no, he hasn't announced it yet. I'll be interested to know whether he's retiring or whether he's got some other stuff coming up. And Michael, go on.

SPEAKER_03

I heard on the I think it might have been Magic Week or on some article that was written about it, yeah, that he's um he's planning something big after.

SPEAKER_04

Well, that's what he said. That that was his announcement, but he hasn't said what.

SPEAKER_03

He was gonna banish the moon, wasn't he?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Whether he's still gonna do that or not is another thing. Um, yeah. Be interested to see though.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it will. It will. So Michael said as well, for any of you that are interested, and I don't think you need to be a Magic Circle member to go, but the Magic uh Magic Circle convention tickets have just been put on sale. So uh Michael, if you can let us know where they could pick them up, that will uh that will be fantastic. I'll put a link in here. Um and they even got the amazing Brian Conley hosting the Gala show. Nice doing a comedy masterclass.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, lovely.

SPEAKER_04

And who have we got well?

SPEAKER_03

What can I say?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you were available.

SPEAKER_02

I'll do a comedy under class for you. No, I'll do a comedy back of class.

SPEAKER_04

The amazing Wayne Goodman's gonna be your host at the Annex Ann Magic Convention all day.

SPEAKER_03

Should I do that gag that I showed you earlier at the convention?

SPEAKER_04

No, right, so uh oh Danny Rag said maybe Wayne could attend.

SPEAKER_05

Unbelievable.

SPEAKER_04

Unbelievable. Um, right, so I don't think this is gonna come up as a link, but uh we have got there. So if you go on to the Magic Circle uh website, I presume, uh go on to the Magic Circle website, you should be able to buy the tickets. And I presume, Michael, that non-members are welcome as well. Let me know in the chat.

SPEAKER_03

I'll just say Pete there as well. If you are listening to this on a podcast, um Michael has put up a link. Um, but obviously we can't read it out because lots of letters and numbers and capitals and lowercase, etc., and symbols. But if you go onto the YouTube uh page, if you go onto the Alexand YouTube channel uh later on and you find the video, you can go to the comments and you'll see the link, and you should better click it in the comments and it'll take you straight to the site.

SPEAKER_04

Brilliant. Top stuff. Uh yeah, that's and on Facebook. And on Facebook. So, yeah, but I presume you just go to the magic circle, and Michael has confirmed that non-magicians are welcome. Non-magicians are welcome. So it's gonna be a great day. The magic circle convention is fantastic, and if it's if you're not a member, it gives you a chance as well to see the actual magic circle they're building, which is phenomenal. The circle's a wonderful, wonderful place. So um make sure you pick up a ticket. It's a great day. Um, Michael's one of the organisers as well, always puts on a great day and a great show.

SPEAKER_03

I'm just going to ask Michael actually, because I can see on here that Michael's actually on Facebook and he's posted on Facebook. Michael, could you just do two seconds and go over to the YouTube uh video and just post it on the YouTube video as well for everyone? That'll be easier for people to find. Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

And um also this year the convention is dedicated to the late great Wayne Dobson as well. So um, yeah, make sure you get yourself tickets um and support these uh support the conventions because you know without you guys there wouldn't be any conventions, and if you want conventions to continue, you've got to support them. And I'll even throw in magic shops as well into that. You want to support your brick and mortar, or you want brick and mortar magic shops, there's not many of us about, you need to support them. Uh right, let me have a look. Oh, you're gonna show us a trick. I'm gonna bring you up full screen. Okay, here we go. Here we go. Here we go.

SPEAKER_03

So um this is actually another deck that I carry on with my case. It's a it's a great trick. I I absolutely love performing it. Uh it's based around a game. So me and my girlfriend, we um we we use these cards all the time. We uh if we want to go out for a drink or if we're making drinks, we've got a lot of alcohol in the house. Um, then we uh we we get the cards out, we each pick a drink, and then we go and make it, and then we enjoy it, and we as the evening goes on, the drinks get worse. Um, but uh I'm gonna show you some of the drinks I've got here actually. Um before I do that, I'm just gonna take out a random card from in the pack. Now, um these it's called pick a drink because you funnily enough, you pick a drink. Um, but I'm gonna take I'm gonna take this one out, it's just a random choice from the middle. I don't know if this will work. Um, there is literally nothing in my pocket, but I'm gonna leave it. I'm gonna leave it there. Okay, hopefully it won't fall down. But yeah, trust me that I'm not gonna do anything with that. Yeah, um, and Pete, I want you to help me here. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna deal cards down. Now, at the moment, I'm just going from right to left, but when we do it in a second, I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna mix it up and I'm gonna put some here and some here. Now, there's not hundreds of cards, so please don't wait too long. But whenever you want, I just want you to say stop. Stop. Okay, now what we're gonna do is we're gonna cut off one of these piles. So let me just square these up. Um, and I've got these four marker cards here. Um, so we've got the uh one, two, three, or four. Would you just name one, please?

SPEAKER_04

Uh three.

SPEAKER_03

This one here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I'm gonna place this on top of this pile, and I'm not gonna deal any more cards onto that pile.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So that pile's out now, okay? So I'm just gonna keep on dealing. So just say stop whenever you like. Uh stop. Okay, so one, two, or four. Uh I'm gonna go one. Okay, so again, I'm not gonna deal any more cards onto pile number one now. I'm just gonna square these up. And obviously, when I'm doing this in the shows, I get multiple people to make choices. Uh go again for you, please, Peter. Stop. Okay, oh, we're nearly there. Uh, two or four. Um four. Four? Okay. And now before I get to the end, just say stop. Stop. Okay, that's fine. I can go on to there. Okay. So um so that's our four our four parts. I'm gonna pick these up. Okay. Um, and I'm gonna give them a cut. Okay, now I'm gonna go through and I'm gonna take out the cards where they stopped and the cards next to them. Okay. Yeah. I might mess this up a little bit, but that's alright. Okay. Um I have I've messed this up.

SPEAKER_04

Don't worry. Do you want to reset and do it again?

SPEAKER_03

No, it's alright, it's alright. We can make this work. So, um, here uh yeah, I might need to actually, because I or we can say, look away for a second, and I could just do that. No, that's not gonna work either.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've been you you reset. And for anyone that's watching this, Wayne will be appearing at the Anaxam Magic Convention. So I don't know what's happened.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know why that did that. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Don't you worry, mate. It happens to the best of us. Now, while while you're doing what you're doing, um a question's come in. It says, off topic, um, but I really want to get the E2. When will stock come in? Um, stock actually did arrive this morning, but I'm not sure if we have any packaging. So I will know that later on today when we pop to the lock up and have a look. More packaging has been ordered, but the decks themselves are in, and I do think we have some packaging. Um, so we should be able to pack some up and get them on the site maybe later on today.

SPEAKER_03

Right, I think I got this. I think I know what I was doing wrong because I was fixating on the fact that I think one of the reveals is gonna end up backwards because of the camera. Right. And I was thinking backwards. So should we try again?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, let's try again. Um, UK maybe Nigel said he blames Peter for putting you off anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, well, that that's fair enough.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_03

I do this all the time. I can't believe it, but oh my god, I guess. So, Pete, Pete, you're gonna um I've still got this one in the pocket, okay? Um, and I just want you to um yeah, just say stop as I deal them down. I'm gonna go slow at the time because I want to I want to go through.

SPEAKER_04

Uh let's say stop there. Okay, one, two, three, or four. Uh let's go four this time. I'm gonna I'm gonna mix it up a bit.

SPEAKER_03

Do it, mix it up. Uh stop. Okay, I I partly dealt that one. Do you want me to deal it down or keep it? No, I do not. Okay, so one, two, or three. One. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Stop.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, two or four. Two or three?

SPEAKER_04

Three.

SPEAKER_03

Three, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Stop.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. There's got to be that one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, perfect. So what I'm gonna do is we're gonna pile these up. Like so. Um, so they're all mixed up, and in the middle there is the the choices. Yeah, uh, I'm gonna go through and I'm gonna take out um the card next to where you said stop. Yeah. Okay. That one, uh, over here. Um I've only got a small table, so I'm just trying to condense for work. And right down here is the last one. Let me move these out of the way. Okay, can you see all of that on the table? Oh, I certainly can, young man. Okay, now when we choose our drinks, um, especially with my girlfriend when we, or my fiance, I should say, when we're doing this, um, we we're quite conscious of what we're choosing. So I don't tend to pick drinks with gin in them because I don't really like gin, whereas she doesn't like Jack Daniels or whiskey, so she'll go for a vodka drink or something like that. But here we've done it blind, we don't know what we've chosen. Um, so let's have a look. So the first drink, and I love the how the brain works here, but the first drink is a whiskey. Okay, so that's for me, that is. Um, and there's lots of cocktails with a whiskey. You could have a old-fashioned or you could have um a whiskey sour. Um, what we've got here, we've got a Negroni. Now I've never had a Negroni. What's that like, Pete?

SPEAKER_04

Um, it's alright. It's not my favourite, I'll be honest with you. Is that vodka? I'm not sure what's in a Negroni. I've just ordered it. Um we'll have to have a look.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Uh Irish coffee.

SPEAKER_04

Uh I've had Irish coffee before. Once again, not my favourite.

SPEAKER_03

You see, I'm not a big fan of coffee. I don't drink coffee, so I'm not a big fan of the Irish coffee. Um Tracy loves the espresso martinis, so that's always a good one. Oh, and an Envy, which is a very sweet flavoured uh drink. So we've got four drinks here. We've got the whiskey, the Irish coffee, the DeGroni, and the Envy. Now, the first thing I notice is that the colours of the drinks match, kind of match the colours of the cards. So the whiskey is a nice light brown colour. I know it's coming off a bit yellow on this camera, but it is a brown colour. Uh, the dark brown for the for the Irish coffee, uh, the orangey red for the uh Negroni, and the lovely blue, what colour blue is that? I don't know, blue. Blue or green? Uh but it looks like a turquoise, is it? Turquoisey, yeah. No point asking me. I just found out I'm colour blind. Uh that came out of the purple. Right, now we've got four predictions here, and they kind of that that's a bit vague, though, as a prediction. So let's have a look over here because on the back here I've got something that says uh only one of the drinks has coffee in it. And if we look at the four drinks here, only one of them has coffee, the Irish coffee. Bearing in mind all the different cocktails that could have been chosen, like the Espresso Martini, like the Tiamaria drinks, which have a coffee flavour. Only one of these drinks, you managed to select only one drink that has coffee inside it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh on the back of this one, it says two of the drinks have fruit on them. Now there's no fruit on the whiskey, and there's no fruit on the Irish coffee, but on the Negroni, there's a bit of orange, and on the Envy, there is a slice of pineapple. So only two of the drinks do have bearing in mind again, you could have chosen any of these, and you chose the only two of them have got fruit on them. Uh, the next one says the first letter of each drink reveals the identity of the mystery card. Remember the mystery card, nothing else inside here? Yeah, nothing else at all, just one card, and we've got whiskey with a W, Irish coffee with an I, Negroni with an N, and MV with an E. When of course, when you put that together, it spells wine. Nice, not wine, wine. Um, so we found that's correct as well. And the last prediction says, Congratulations, you managed to stay alive. Now, that's not because if you drunk all of these it would kill you, probably wouldn't be very good for you, uh, but more to do with the fact that every other card is in fact poison all the way through. Every single card is a poison card, and you manage to avoid them and choose the ones with the drinks on them.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's great, mate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it wouldn't be a bit if I hadn't messed it up the first time. It's because I was I was I was worried the wine wasn't gonna come out the right way.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And it was sort of like, ah, let me just put this over here.

SPEAKER_04

It's very um when we released it, it's got that feel of a chair test with the reveal upon reveal upon reveal. It's really, really cool.

SPEAKER_03

It just builds and builds and builds until you get that kicker ending with the with the with the poison cards. Yeah, it's it's it's great.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And um, yeah, a great creator as well, Nicholas Mavesis. Um, if if you look for it on the site, the box it comes in about you you won't believe how many messages we used to get on the chat and how many emails we get where people go, Oh, I bought poison, but you've sent me pick a drink.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, um, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So it comes in the packaging for as if it's like a little game pick a drink. Um uh but the trick is called poison by Nicholas Malvesis, and yeah, it it's superb when done correctly.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, it is, it's a great trick, and the other thing is it is self-working.

SPEAKER_03

Thanks, Pete.

SPEAKER_04

Well, there you go. Um let's see what's uh Darren Bain, poison messed with my mind for years. I didn't know you were a fan, Darren. No, I he's kept that quiet, hasn't he?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um if you've not been watching for the last five years or so, Darren has been constantly asking about Poison 2. Um every single week, it would be when's Poison 2 coming out. Yeah. So yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um Danny Rag said he bloody loves PubCraw 2. It's a banger.

SPEAKER_03

Ah, thank you, Danny. Thank you very much. Yeah, I I love it. I love it too. But if if you've got PubCraw 1, um, sorry for the shameless plug here. Uh if you've got PubCraw 1, um uh the difference is I've updated it so there's there's now five BMX, not four, that you use through the show. Um they've all got great names that you can do gags about. Um the drinks prices have been increased, so they're more realistic for the modern day. Um, and uh and I just think it's a bit of a stronger routine with it as well. And the the fact that you get that extra card really makes it more impossible. Um and I'm gonna be releasing very shortly the uh I haven't got one here, but I've got uh a dedicated wallet just for pub call now, which will be the pub call wallet. And it's it's literally I've got the uh fully loaded and the solo, uh, which you can put other tricks in as well. It will hold a pub call, but uh I don't know where it is. I generally might be in the bag, but I've got um a dedicated wallet just for pub call. So it goes in there, it's got space for the money if you want to use the money, or it's got space for a prediction card if you want to do that route. Um, but yeah, so that's going to be available very soon as well.

SPEAKER_04

Brilliant.

SPEAKER_03

Um also and it is available on Alakazam right now.

SPEAKER_04

It's available now, so go grab one. It's called Pub Crawl 2. Um also in a couple of weeks, myself and Wayne uh off to London with our better halves to watch a show. The uh Lucy Darling show at is it the palladium?

SPEAKER_03

I think it is the palladium. I don't uh let me just let me have a quick look. I don't know if I've got it on here. Let me have a quick check.

SPEAKER_04

So, how many of you are going to see Lucy Darling in London? Um I think she's got two dates, which isn't bad going to to book out a palladium or I've just got show in London.

SPEAKER_03

Tracy, if you're watching, uh can you drop me a message? Let me know where it is. Thank you. I I think it might be the palladium. Um I'm yeah, I think when you spoke to me about it, I'm pretty sure you mentioned Palladium. Um yeah, very exciting, very, very exciting. A very very very distinct performer performer, isn't she? I I'm absolutely in love. I'm absolutely in love with that trick where the newspaper, you do the tourist or newspaper, and it gets bigger and it gets bigger, and it keeps opening up, and she's the one on the the advert for it who does that trick. Um, and uh and then she vanishes, and and the guy she's doing the show with he he appears. And um the her the way she speaks is so clear and precise, and it's just a it's just a lovely to watch, it's really great. Yeah, so I'm I'm really excited for it, and apparently she's very funny as well, and she's very, very funny.

SPEAKER_04

Um and she's an extremely good magician. Like, extremely good. So it it's gonna be I think it's gonna be a great show. I'm I'm really looking forward to it. Really looking forward to it. Anyone coming along? Anyone messaging saying they're coming? Um no. No one's no one's put it in the chat. Well, yeah, I'm gonna go. I'm definitely going.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah, I'm very excited for it. I'm I'm I I think she'll be well, I know she'll be amazing. So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing that.

SPEAKER_04

Um I'll tell you what else I've done recently. I subscribe to uh the magician's podcast network. And that's um I haven't done it before.

SPEAKER_03

So what's what's that what's the difference? What is that?

SPEAKER_04

So it's different because it's a paid subscription. Okay. Um, but uh it's really, really good. It gives you access to three or four different podcasts. Um you've got one which is the the general one, which is uh Richard Young and Alan Hudson. So they they sort of just talk about news, they have a guest on there, they interviewed a guest and everything else. Really, really good, really interesting, great presenters. Um and then you've got one which I found very interesting. I've actually been asked to go on it, um, which I I may well do. It's called The Magic of Television, I think that's what it's called, and it's where you watch um a magic show that's been on TV, and they've they've covered a lot, you know. They've they've already covered all sort of the Copperfield stuff and bits like that, but then they talk about the show and what they thought about the show and everything else. Um, and where I'm pretty late to the game, um I I've got so many to catch up on now, which is great, you know. Um but it it does get my recommendation. You do have to subscribe for it, it is a monthly subscription, um, but I I'm thoroughly enjoying it. And if you don't want To subscribe to a podcast, but you want to listen to a fantastic podcast, we have our very own desert island tricks. And last week we had the amazing uh Rodney James Piper, who we both know very well. He owns the House of Illusion.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Well, it it's more than just House of Illusion, but yeah, he's got House of Illusion over in Salon, Spain, which I used to be part of 20 years ago when it first started. Me and him started that uh yeah, I think 2003 uh or 2002, a long, long time ago.

SPEAKER_04

Um very you know, it it's such a great place. I do want to get out there at some point.

SPEAKER_03

Have you been back since you went to see it that first time?

SPEAKER_04

No, I've only been once, which was the time that um uh that's that wasn't the first time I met you, was it?

SPEAKER_03

No, no, we'd we'd met at conventions and stuff, um but yeah, no, that it wasn't the first time we'd probably the first time we'd probably had a proper chat and stuff.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Um, because I used to come down to the shop. I used to come down to the shop oh mid-90s. Um or late nineties, and then you used to give me packages to take round the corner to uh climb to card collection. Yeah, and he'd give me he'd give me half a dozen decks of cards, never gave me a bag, I had to carry them uh to bring round to you. It just bundled me up with load of stuff. So I'd give them to Peter and I'd be like terrified I'm gonna drop them in case they're like some special deck or something.

SPEAKER_04

Well that that was uh that was a a great I mean it was a great night when I went, but it's uh it's a different gravy now, isn't it? It's a big nightclub type place.

SPEAKER_03

The only way I think I can describe it, I've not seen the new venue, which isn't new anymore, but from the pictures, there's that that Masters of Illusion thing that comes up on Facebook all the time, Masters of Magic, where they're all sat around tables and someone's got a microphone and an app comes on. And I think it's that kind of setting. I think it's lots of tables holding a lot of people, and then you get a full-on like West End style uh magic production with with I mean it's got uh Rodney in it, who's a great entertainer and a great compare. Um, I learned I I'm gonna fanboy out a little bit. Rodney was my best mate for many, many years, and we're still good mates now, but he was like we were like brothers for years, and I learned so much for him from him in my early early career from like 1995 onwards when when we worked together in Benedome just as lowly entertainers in the hotel. Um, but I learned so much from him, and then you've got like I know he goes over quite a lot, Matt Edwards, yeah who's amazing. Uh, you've got Rodney's son Harry, who's just been on Star Search, came second.

SPEAKER_04

Once again, you know, he's a m he's grown up on stage. Yes, that's the thing. He literally has grown up on stage. I I think Rodney put up a picture of him like five years old or something doing something on stage. So he he's literally grown up on stage.

SPEAKER_03

If you if you know the Piper family, you know that they're not shy or unconfident, you know. They they and growing up with with Rodney as a dad and Russell as a brother, Darrell lives overseas the other brother, but especially with Russell, he would have he would have had to make his own stand and yeah, he would have grown up bustling with confidence. Um yeah, I mean Harry's great, and then you've got all the other acts that go over there. I mean, Harry Moulding, who who did amazing this year on or last year on BGT, did he win it?

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah, he did. He was uh an uh alumni from Fingu, wasn't he?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, uh he was an amazing, uh great performer. Um yeah, and alongside that as well, he's also got the entertainment company, so he's got singers and dancers and entertainers working in the hotels. And and you know, yeah, it it's it's a it's a if you get a chance to go over there, if you want a holiday and you want to go to Spain, head to Sulu, you won't be disappointed. The show's amazing, you'll see some of the best magic anywhere in the world. It it it stands toe-to-toe with any any other theatre performance, I would say. Yeah, um, you know, the quality of what we're watching.

SPEAKER_04

Get back out there at some point.

SPEAKER_03

Well, who knows? Maybe uh maybe if someone's having a stag do in the next year, maybe they might head over that way.

SPEAKER_04

Who knows?

SPEAKER_03

I have to speak to the little one and have a word with him and see what he says. He's probably watching. My phone will beep in a minute and he'll message me and go by booked it.

SPEAKER_04

Right, so Wayne, we are coming up very close to the end of today's live podcast. Well, and and a few people have said, yeah, they've confirmed it is the palladium. I thought it was because I'm sure the tickets come up just after I'd been to the palladium to watch another show. Um, yeah. But I I'm really looking forward to that. That's in a couple of weeks' time, I think Jenny said.

SPEAKER_03

So uh 23rd or something, I think it's like three weeks' time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And then before we finish off though, Pete, we have got to mention that shortly after that, like two weeks or three weeks after that, we have got the Alakazam convention.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, we are.

SPEAKER_03

Are there still tickets available?

SPEAKER_04

Uh there are. We're not I'm not really promoting it that much, but they are on our website. Um I'm not pro promoting it because we haven't got a huge amount of tickets, so I I don't want to send out a big email yet or anything else. I might give it a final push, but if you're after one, you can still grab one off the site. Um, but there are not many left at all. Um and there was something else I was gonna Oh, I'm off to see uh Darren Brown, I think, next Wednesday. Either next Wednesday or Wednesday after.

SPEAKER_03

Is that the uh only human show? I'm not sure. I think it's only human, isn't it? That's the one that he was doing in Blackpool the week after Blackpool.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, so yeah, it must be. Must be.

SPEAKER_03

I think it's called Only Human.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah, that'd be exciting. Where are you seeing him? Uh Cansbury. Nice. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So um we're gonna pop down and see that. I mean, uh Darren without a doubt is pretty much our best showman over here. I'll be interested to see uh his show and um yeah, and see what it's like. We'll uh we'll we'll debrief the show. Not me and you, Wayne. We'll we'll debrief the show on on a future podcast.

SPEAKER_03

No, nobody needs that. Nobody needs that thought in their head.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_03

So what before before we sign off, Pete, what have we got coming up this week? So there'll be the review show is back.

SPEAKER_04

Uh the review show will be on on Sunday. Um remember we're closed Friday and Monday because of the bank holiday. So if you'll call in the shop, um don't be surprised if no one answers because no one will be here on Friday or Monday. Um but yeah, we've got the review show will go out as per usual, I believe, on Sunday. Um, and then keep your eye on our socials because Harry's back, so there's loads of little performances going up and everything else.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I saw the one he did with the um, is it the Michael Chatelaine trick?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That was amazing. That that that whole vibe of that video was just fantastic.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was great, right?

SPEAKER_03

I messaged him and was like, oh my god, that's amazing.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it looked really good. Um, and I tell you what, we were hoping that they would arrive in time. We had a new release planned for today. Um unfortunately they haven't arrived in time, but they are on their way so that it will be on our site for pre-order tomorrow. Um so I will drop that in now. Um but yeah, we we were hoping they they would have been here last week to be fair, but they never turned up. Um but it's something different, something fun. Um so yeah, make sure you check out our website. Right, and that is it. An hour, like that. Yeah. So um guys, thank you so much for joining us on the live podcast.
