SPEAKER_03

Hi guys, and welcome to this week's live video podcast thing that Jamie makes me do every single week. And that academy is happening tonight at 7 o'clock. If you haven't got your tickets, go grab them now. It's going to be 7 o'clock. It'll be streamed into your Alexam account under the Alexam Academy section. Um and it's going to be good. And we have got the legend. I'm going to introduce him in a moment, the legend David Jonathan joining us, and he is going to be showing you a trick that he will be teaching on the Academy. He's going to be showing you that live later on in this podcast. So if you are listening to this as a podcast, go check it out on YouTube where you'll be able to see the trick. So anyway, let's bring in my co-host for the day, the legendary Mr. Wayne Goodman, who's in a pub. I think he's got a problem. Hello? What's that? All I could see was your fingernails. You couldn't see the cards. You were too close. Yeah, buddy fingernail there. Um how are we doing? Yeah, good mate. How are you?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm all right. Yes, I'm in the pub again. I'm here, I'm um uh chilling out. I've been working here this morning, so uh yeah, it's been alright.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, working. Working, I have yeah, working, have you?

SPEAKER_04

Working on that Jack and Coke, I thank you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, I bet. I bet.

SPEAKER_04

I've not actually had a drink yet, um, but I um yeah, no, I I I come in because the the Wi-Fi is better here than at Tracy's, so I can do the live from here. Otherwise I have to drive all the way back to the new market and then all the way back again.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But so how's um how are you? Have you recovered from the weekend?

SPEAKER_04

I was really shattered. It was it was a long day. It was a great day, but it was long. The worst part of it for me was going up and down those stairs all day, and then discovering at the end of the night that there's a door that I could have cut through and saved five minutes' journey every time.

SPEAKER_03

And I had the VIP fob that got me through the back way.

SPEAKER_04

Unbelievable.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I couldn't I couldn't let you through that way because it was for VIPs any.

SPEAKER_04

So and and and that would have been too nice, and it would have been yeah. Yeah, but I've got some steps in, I should have a look at how many steps I did on Sunday on Saturday.

SPEAKER_03

I think Jamie looked it up. I think he'd done something like four miles.

SPEAKER_04

I don't look now.

SPEAKER_03

Something something ludicrous.

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah, I did five point two miles.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's a lot. So by the time you finished, you were you were in Rochester. Yeah. Yeah, then you had to make your way back to the convention.

SPEAKER_04

Which is another 5.2 man.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So, okay, before we introduce uh David Jonathan, David's gonna be doing this trick for us a little bit later on. Um, but before we do, let's talk about the big event. You can start.

SPEAKER_04

Uh well, I mean, Saturday we well, officially, really Friday, we had the Alakazam convention, um, which was uh uh two days or one and a half days of non-stop magic uh and fun, and it was great. So we started on Friday, um but we started early in the day because we were working in the shop, yeah. Uh a very, very busy day on Friday, and then uh we headed over towards the end of the day. We headed over to the cinema, people started arriving. Um and I would say from the moment those first people started arriving, there was a real buzz in the air, and there was a real feeling of something special happening that people were going in, they were sitting down, they were talking, they were jamming, they were sessioning, there was a real feeling that something special was happening there, um, which is what we wanted. Um and then it very, very quickly, everyone seemed to turn up like within an hour or so. I mean, people were coming in later as well, but within like the first uh the first like hour, hour and a half, a lot of people arrived. Yeah, um ordering food, drinks. Um, I know a couple of guys who came to the cinema and and didn't bother even checking in until afterwards. They went and checked in on when they went to bed.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um, and um, yeah, yeah, it was good. Friday night, what did we do Friday? We we um yeah, we were we were sitting and sessioning, and then uh Andy and I did a bit of a lecturette each, didn't we?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, which was great, really broke up the evening and everyone enjoyed it. The the other good thing as well, which um I I really enjoyed, and we're gonna make more of a thing of it next year, was having um yourself and Taylor on the Saturday was basically walking around introducing people to groups because we had a lot of people that come by themselves, obviously. Um and it was lovely that they had you there to sort of go and say, Come and join us, come and join us. Come and the amount of people that have said I've made a bunch of new friends this weekend, so no one was alone at any point.

SPEAKER_04

There was a there was there was a few people there, quite a few people. I mean, and even more we realised on the um on the Sunday um who it was their first ever convention.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, 100%. I'm trying to get Jamie to sit down next to David Jonathan, but he's got his what you got for lunch, Jamie.

SPEAKER_02

We've been so busy we haven't had a chance to eat. No, that is true.

SPEAKER_03

So Mr.

SPEAKER_01

David Jonathan is gonna be eating whilst he talks to you. Well, I'm just gonna be like a dinner date between him and the average fans.

SPEAKER_03

I promise I won't cut to you till no no no no, you eat we won't cut to you until later on because you're not gonna do the trick till later. So enjoy your dinner, lunch. You you sit down and meet, and I'll cut.

SPEAKER_01

Mine's next door, I've got to go back and get it. Sorry.

SPEAKER_03

And then because we're we're talking about a convention and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Alright.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the um David, you you start eating. There were a lot of people there who it was their first ever convention. I've got one.

SPEAKER_03

I've got one, thank you. Sorry, mate.

SPEAKER_04

It was their first ever convention, they've never been to a convention before. Um, and and not that not that they're any different from anybody else, but then then there's a real pressure to make sure that they feel just how good it is, and it's a moment of wonder because everybody remembers their first I don't know how I do, everyone remembers their first convention. And uh to to put that in our hands that you know they're gonna be the Yale Kazam convention is gonna be their first ever one. This is the one that every other convention they go to is gonna be referenced against compared to, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Um well it we had a lovely couple in from Scotland yesterday, and I heard this a lot over the weekend, where people were saying, I've only been into magic two years, I've only been into magic three years, and what got them into magic was seeing Harry on Facebook because up until that point they they never knew magic shops existed, they never knew you could actually buy and learn magic. Um, so these people, you know, they're they're truly part of the Alakas fam. They've been born through the Alakha fam. This was their first ever lecture, the first experience, like you said, of a magic convention. And I know I'm being really biased, but what a first experience of a magic convention.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, it was amazing. It was I mean, so I've been to hundreds of conventions, I've lectured at them, I've performed at them, I've been as a as a guest, you know, delegate, you know what I mean, and and it just everything just flowed perfectly, you know. There was there was the lectures were great and really entertaining, all four lectures. So we had uh let's do it in order, we had Tom Wright, who I'd seen, I'd seen his academy or bits of it. Um I didn't I'm gonna be 100% honest, I didn't really know Tom uh too well before before Saturday. Um and and he was amazing. He did a lecture, uh it was a lot about threads and stuff. He did his um uh what's the coin one called named art. Oh, uh is it Oblivion or Oblivion, he did, uh which was great, absolutely fantastic. Um and then uh then we had Mark Spellman lecture, amazing, absolutely fantastic lecture. Then we had Craig Petty, always amazing. Uh um yeah, he was great, fantastic, um yeah, brilliant. And then we had David Jonathan, who's on the show today, who again absolutely brilliant, four absolutely amazing stellar world-class lecturers, yeah. Um you know, all doing, all sharing what they do, and then we had uh the show, which had Mark Bennett um with his goose.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Uh we had uh Tom Wright, who I'll come back to in a minute, and then we had Spellman again. Yeah, and uh Tom Wright for me probably the funniest comedy act I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I tell you what, amazing. We didn't film any of the lectures, and we weren't planning on filming anything because we just wanted to sort of concentrate on the day, and then next year, if we do it again, then we will think about filming and stuff like that. This year we we just we had so much going on, we just wanted to make sure everyone had a good time. Um, but Jamie did set up a camera for the for the gala show, and on Sunday night after we had dinner and everything, myself, Jamie, um, David, and Emilio watched the show again. I laughed just as much at Tom Wright. David's nodding his head. Yeah, it just as funny the second time, it's gonna be just as funny the third time. I mean, it was phenomenal. Um, I just want to say, as well, there was a few things that have come up here. So there's some wonderful comments coming in here as well. So, firstly, I want to say thank you to absolutely everyone that came along because you know, a big part of what this made uh what made this convention friendly was you guys. That's that's the thing, you know. You guys were so welcoming, you were so open to joining other groups and discussing magic. Um, so big kudos to you guys because the Alakafam is something that in our mind we created, we want it to be this encouraging community, encouraging, friendly community, no elitism, no cliques, just people that enjoy magic, and seeing it in action rather than you know, just in our imagination was was incredible, absolutely incredible.

SPEAKER_04

I took, you know, and you called me over a few times and introduced me to people and asked me to help them find a conversation, and every every time person I took, I was taking to a conversation, stay with them for a bit, had a little chat, and and go back an hour later and they're still there with them. You know, it's everybody was welcoming, everyone was friendly. Uh, and and it's that old cliche of oh, you you come as strangers and you leave as friends, yeah. But that is absolutely um exactly you know what it was, it really was.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Do you know the other thing that was um that was really interesting? I had a lot of people, because obviously this was the first convention for a lot of people. I had a lot of people going, oh my god, I didn't realise they taught the magic. They they thought it was the lectures were just shows. And where it's their first ever convention, never been to a magic club, never been to a magic lecture. They thought they were gonna sit there and enjoy four different little magic shows, but they were so excited that they were actually getting the inf inside information on how this stuff actually works, you know.

SPEAKER_04

I must say, I was uh I had a lot of very positive comments from people uh about David Jonathan, about his lecture. Yes. Uh oh, thank you, Craig. Um, I'll come back to you in a second. I'm gonna tell you about what I'm planning. Um about Craig having a Craig literally said sorry about David Jonathan, he literally said at the beginning um of his lecture, don't worry about taking notes, because you can come to my stand afterwards, scan a QR code, and you're gonna get all the notes for the lecture. And and that was a really nice, nice touch. And a lot of people saying how nice that was. They didn't have they didn't miss anything writing stuff down or trying to put stuff on their phone. They could just they could sit back later and just watch everything and enjoy everything as is.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Uh Craig, Craig's daughter, um, I can't remember Abby, I can't remember how old she is. I think she's six or five. I got her up in the the lecture that I did on the Friday night and did my uh something that I've only ever done in lectures. Um thank you, Will. Uh she's just left, she just had to go back to work. Um, yeah, the um I got her up for the sponge ball routine that I do, and there's a part of that that I've never really taught and that I've only dyself that I'm gonna be doing as a download. Uh and um Craig filmed it and has given me permission to use the footage of me and Nabby um on that. So uh yeah, thank you very much for that. That's very good. Well, you're a lovely guy. We had we had a lovely time uh chatting with you. Uh oh Paul, I didn't get a chance to speak to Paul, but I did see him in the audience. Yeah, it's lovely, it's really that that's what it's been like on the emails as well, with people just emailing saying thank you, thank you, thank you. It's great.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um I I just want to ask a question. Out of all of you, and there's there's a lot of you that are posting up here that you came to the convention, you enjoyed a convention and everything else, how many of you are gonna be joining us next year? But the Alakazam Convention 2027. Let us know, because I must admit, even though it was a lot of hard work to put together, a lot of stressful evenings trying to work out what's happening and worrying if it's all gonna go well, I'm seriously missing it now. I really am, you know.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it's uh it's one of those, isn't it? I mean, I I'm the same after the shindig. Shameless plug. Um, I'm the same after the shindig. You know, there's a lot of uh that's a new one.

SPEAKER_03

It's a new one. I just made that today just for you, Wayne.

SPEAKER_04

That's fantastic. Um oh my god, that's hilarious. Um yeah, that there's um after the shindig, uh you stress about it, especially on the on the weeks up coming up to it and stuff, and then and then it's all done, and then you kind of go, oh, and and and sometimes even on like on the Friday night, sometimes you go, I can't do this next year, it's too much stress. And on the Sunday, you know, after the Shindig, everyone heads home, you eat your computer going, Mike, what can we do next year to make it bigger or better?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I must admit I have never once thought I can't do it again. I'm just everyone here was absolutely buzzing. But do you know what it is, Wayne? And I know I I I've said this again. What made the convention for me was not the lecturers, not the shows, it was just seeing everyone enjoying themselves. Because that's all you wish for. That's all you wish for. We're putting on this convention, not for us, it's it's for you. It is for the Yalakafam, it's a place for them, it's a day for them, it's a a day for them to enjoy themselves. And all the worry and all the stress is about how can we make it so everyone has the best day they could have. That's what it is. That's what it boils down to. And that's the that's my that was my only worry. I wasn't worried about whether the lecturers were gonna be good, I know they're gonna be good. I wasn't worried about the the shows, I wasn't worried about the venue, I wasn't worried about the staff at the venue. I know all those things, I know them all, I know the staff, I know the bosses at the the cinema, I knew all that was gonna be great. Our only concern was how do we make this great for everyone? And to be fair, you know, on the Friday night, Wayne's lecture wasn't planned. Andy's lecture wasn't planned. We just thought at first we were thinking maybe we'll do sync on the Friday, maybe we won't, and then a few people said, just let people relax and enjoy themselves. Um and then we were doing that, and then Wayne came over and said, Look, you know, I think it'll be good, break it up a bit. Why don't I do because we didn't realise the cinema had set up that other little room for us, so I said she came to me and said, Is it what do you reckon we could do over here?

SPEAKER_04

You know, could we get people to come in here or there's a little breakout room? What can we do? And I said, Well, why don't we do like a little I'll do like a little half an hour, 40 minute lecturette, yeah, and and and just like off the cuff kind of thing, and just whatever I've got in my bag, I'll teach and we'll go from there. And then Andy said he'd do it as well. Um, so yeah, so they got an extra like two 45s almost.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, um which was great, it was yeah, it it's it meant the um, you know, even though the the jamming and the chatting and everything's fantastic, isn't it? It's it's lovely, but they were immersed in the magic from from the first moment. Also, the way it was laid out, that photo opportunity thing that we had, everything just looked phenomenal, I thought.

SPEAKER_04

For those that didn't attend or couldn't attend for whatever reason, um when you go into a cinema as well, they have these big, big screens up showing future releases and what they're showing at the moment, movie posters, and um yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I can probably I can probably bring them in. Pop them on here, you know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there was quite we had a lot of people. While you're talking, I'm not being rude. Well, shall I shall I talk about who's next to me for a second? Yeah. So uh I am joined, some of you may have seen, by the one and only Mr. Martin Pierce. Yay! Now we've got Robin here and some of our friends are here, um, who are they sessioning over the over the way at the moment. Um, and um Tracy was here a little while ago, she's about to go back to work. I've finished work at one o'clock, so I've I've been uh I've been on the emails. Um but you've got a bit of news, haven't you?

SPEAKER_05

Well I have. I must say, brilliant job at the convention on the weekend, absolutely amazing. Um couple of things that people didn't regard as well. Park was so easy, it was free after three o'clock. The Ashford cinema staff were amazing as well. So you know they were clapping all these tricks at the bar, so they must be quite brilliant. But uh yeah, the the news is not only don't we got some great people, uh on Friday I was on pointless with Robin. And we got this trophy, I don't know if I can show you here. Where am I going here? Oh, going there. Can we see it there? Yes, so on Friday, me and Robin were on pointless, and we managed to win. So we have got the trophy. So if you want to watch it, BBC iPlayer for Friday, me and Robin, we do a bit of magic on there as well, and we managed to win on pointless.

SPEAKER_04

So and if you bump into Martin in Tesco's or if you see him at a petrol station, he'll have the trophy with him. Yeah, he has been carrying it about. He uh yeah, it's uh yeah. So if you if you bump his car and you're fitting out your insurance form, he'll get out and show you the trophy. That's it.

SPEAKER_05

Um yeah, and if I haven't got it with me, I'll definitely have a photo of it as well, so don't worry, you you you will be will be aware of it. But yeah, a great convention, I'd love to meet people as well. Uh Craig I met as well at the weekend that you say about his daughter and that, but yeah, Craig Come along. They got me to sign Hero Box, which is 25 Patrick, you're probably worth about five an hour. So uh I met David as well, who likes to like me. It was great to meet him and lots of other people like yourself. You sing the name and you put the faces to the name and they're lovely people. It's uh amazing convention. So uh well done. Should be very proud of Mr. Nardi.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you very much. I'm not being rude, I'm trying to download these images and then I'm gonna I'm gonna put them up somewhere.

SPEAKER_04

So I tell you what, while we're waiting, while I'm doing this, um I am going to I was just gonna say very quickly before we do that, I was to say one other thing that that won't mean as much to everybody else, but I know it meant a lot to me, was putting faces to names to people that I've helped on the chat, on the emails over the years, um, and having them sat at the table and go, and seeing you and them going, Oh, I know you, I've just never met you before, and seeing meeting all these people who I've spoken to in one format or another, but never actually met because they've never been to a convention before. So that was that for me was an amazing moment.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. So, right, while we do this, I am going to drop a little trailer in, I think.

SPEAKER_02

Let's go for it. Okay, here we go.

SPEAKER_04

Right, and if you do that, it looks like it doesn't.

SPEAKER_01

What do you do if a trick goes wrong? Here's what to do. So, first of all, we need a colour selected. Uh Jamie, just say stop for me. Stop. Perfect. Have a look at that colour for me. Alright? Uh yep. You got it? Perfect. Place it back for me anywhere you like. I'm going there. Right in the middle, okay? Now watch this. All we do is place the colours inside. Now, if I don't do any sleight of hand, okay, I click my fingers and one colour jumps to the top. Boom. Two of the clubs. Was that your colour? No. No, okay. Now I'm not gonna panic as a magician because I just need to click a little bit harder, ready? Watch this. Take the two, place it down. Another click. Okay, right, the trigger's clearly gone wrong. I need a safety in it. Magicians never show you this until they need to. Watch it now. It's only this, it's a colour with mona liter on it. Okay, now take a look at it. That is a safety in there. It doesn't look like anything special, but that is essentially a uh getting amount of jam colour. Doesn't look like anything. So take a hold of the mona liter, and then you just have a look at the background. It's got something on it, it's got fine colour and a stomach button. Okay, so listen, all we need you to do is push and hold of a finger on the stomach button. You do it, grab and hold of your finger, push on it and think about your colour for five seconds, go. Standing the face not included. All I need you to do is because you thought about your colour, it's transferred onto here into the stomach button and find my colour. Now I'm not gonna find your colour, but this is because you've clicked here. Now, the Mona Lisa, did you actually take a good look at it? Uh yeah. Yeah, so you would have noticed that she is actually holding one planning colour, and it is your five hearts. She was not holding that. Well, she is now. There you go, mate. That's unbelievable, isn't it? That is Get out of here. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the painting by Nicholas Mavarzi.

SPEAKER_02

It's cool, right? That's really nice. Really, really nice. Um, right, bear with me one second.

SPEAKER_04

Else David Jonathan's I should notice as well, David doesn't like to be called David, he is David Jonathan, all one word.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um, how is his lunch? How is how is your lunch, David?

SPEAKER_03

Delicious. You did you hear that? Yep.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, David's uh lecture of the weekend. David Jonathan. David, sorry, yeah, David wasn't there, was he, David? Jonathan was.

SPEAKER_07

Let's not start this trend.

SPEAKER_05

It was good. And uh I don't know if he's gonna I don't want to say too much about his stuff. Uh it's it's very creative thinking. Uh but you get to get to the Lego trick, I'm not sure if he's doing that or not.

SPEAKER_03

He is teaching it, yeah. He's teaching it and he's gonna perform it in the moment.

SPEAKER_05

Ah, absolutely brilliant. So highly recommended. As I say, I purchased it on the Saturday, I was performing it on the Sunday, and yeah, it's brilliant. So I won't don't give too much away, but you can borrow phones and things like that. Brilliant.

SPEAKER_03

Well, he's actually um I think he's uh you're actually giving that away for free tonight on the Academy.

SPEAKER_07

Wow. Well, after prayers like that, maybe I'll reconsider, but honestly, it's he well uh he was sending up for like a tenor at the weekend.

SPEAKER_05

I said to Wayne, he could get £30 for that and I still buy it because I go up. It's a family effect as well. You can go to a table, can I borrow your phone? You know what children are like at table, they want they've got phones on any age, and yeah, it will blow my way, honestly. And there's there's uh funny fault in there as well, but I don't want to ruin the whole routine, but yeah, it's fun, it's hard hitting, it's mentalism, and it's original, it's great, absolutely loved it.

SPEAKER_04

All the lectures of the weekend, all the lecturers, and and I'm not just saying it's because you're on here, David, but all the lecturers had uh really highly commercial, highly workable. Can I just stop you?

SPEAKER_03

Let me stop you there, because let me introduce David Jonathan, and I can bring him into the chat because no one can see him. So, ladies and gentlemen, the legend that is David Jonathan. Hello, here he is, right? So I'm gonna try and put these uh these pictures in so I can bring them up on screen so uh you guys can chat amongst yourselves. So I'll put it over to you, uh Wayne and Martin and David. Hello, hello, hello.

SPEAKER_07

Hello, David, good to see you again. Thank you for the praise. I did hear that in the background here, so much appreciated. And uh watching who was there, I've heard so many wonderful comments, so uh it was really great to hear that and glad everyone enjoyed as I did.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, no, you you were, as I say, very creative, very original to say, yeah, really enjoyed your lecture. And yeah, looking forward to seeing what you got tonight, sir.

SPEAKER_04

I'm I'm interested to say, David, what what was your highlights from the weekend? What was your personal you know, things that you saw that you really, really enjoyed?

SPEAKER_07

For me, it was meeting everyone. I mean, I've heard it was funny when because I was dealing as well. So uh, whenever someone came over and say, Oh, I'm a big fan, I'll buy something, and then uh when I would see, and then I would get a little notification if it was like the credit card of oh, so-and-so paid you. Oh, I know that's you, and I because now I see the name. I was like, Yeah, we've talked online or whatever. So it was so great to meet everyone in person and putting faces to names. Uh, and then for me, uh we had uh we didn't talk about this, but the dealer's room was incredible. Just it was a who's who everyone was there. We had Trick Trick Boom, we had uh Craig was a dealer there, Phil Smith. I mean, I don't want to leave anyone out, but uh a lot of these people are also my friends who I talk to all the time, but I've never met. So that was the pure highlight for me was meeting my friends in person, getting to hang out with them, jam. I mean, that's you know, it's way different than doing that over Zoom or something. So uh even all the Alkazam team, seeing you guys in person, that's been the highlight bar not for me.

SPEAKER_05

And did you get called Nicholas Mavresis at all? Because a complaint say to me, that's Nicholas Mavresis.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, as I said before to Peter, that's a compliment because he's a good-looking guy, so I'll take it.

SPEAKER_04

It's funny, like I said to you as well, and I'll see you on Thursday. It's funny not seeing you without without that background that's always behind you on your videos.

SPEAKER_07

Yes, exactly a little while, right?

SPEAKER_04

So, uh, how long have you got left in the UK now? How long have you got left? You oh, I believe you lectured last night at the Magic Circle.

SPEAKER_07

I did. We've been packing it in, it's been non-stop. I don't know how I'm still awake right now, but uh today is the final day. Tomorrow, head back home. But we uh had the convention, of course, which was amazing, as we've already said at length. Uh filming new products, which is exciting for fun things to come in the near future. Um then did Magic Circle last night, lectured there, which was it's my first time in London or in the UK actually. So uh it's been amazing to be there in person, see all the history, and just to even perform on that stage. It was uh really, really special and uh got some great feedback as well. So that was a big highlight for me as well. And we've got the Academy Tonight, and it's just it never stops. Peter puts me to work, man.

SPEAKER_04

Ashford's a bit different from New York, innit?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but in a good way. I I like it. It's uh definitely can feel like I'm somewhere else. I was saying the roads are really narrow here. That was one thing I took away right away.

SPEAKER_05

And uh you called him David then. David Jonathan, did you buy anything yourself?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh I didn't. I was way too busy to have a look around, but uh, I'm kind of regretting it because I know there's really good stuff there.

SPEAKER_05

Uh yeah, it's good stuff. I I recommend I've got the packaging pouches from Anna Casab at the weekend. Oh, those are great. Yeah, and they fit in the uh the Craig Petty credit card trick. What's that called?

SPEAKER_04

Uh uh charged up.

SPEAKER_05

Charged up, yeah, they fit in there perfectly. So that's uh yeah, I hardly recommend charged up in the uh packaging pouches.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, a few of those might fall in my suitcase as I make my way out of here, you know.

SPEAKER_04

What charged up or the pouches or both?

SPEAKER_07

There's room for all of them, so why not? Charged up is great, by the way. I don't know if we talked about that at all, but that was my first time seeing it, and uh that's a real crack and trick, so I'm sure that's uh pretty soon.

SPEAKER_03

Uh yeah, that should be released at the end of this month.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, I didn't know it was uh a pre-release. Yeah, I actually got that up. I performed it on a Sunday as well, and it's yeah, brilliant. Gets great and stuff. Yeah, you are you're you are you do cover a pickpocket overnight, but again, I'll leave that to uh hype it up. But yeah, it's uh nice pickpocket routine and uh yeah, excellent. And the pouches are top quality leather, so if you're considering putting your packet tricks in a pouch, yeah, Alec's out once first.

SPEAKER_03

So just just in case you don't know if you've not seen this. They are actually faux leather. Oh really? Oh yeah. But they do feel like leather.

SPEAKER_04

Come on. If you don't know about the pouches, um actually I've got one here.

SPEAKER_05

I've got one on your phone pocket over there that I've been uh credit card for you.

SPEAKER_04

Um Alex Am now have little tiny uh and I can tell you now they're faux leather. I knew that, I knew that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Wayne knows the products inside out.

SPEAKER_04

Um yeah, so it's a little tiny leather uh pouch. Um and let me put a playing card in so you can see. So it will hold uh it will hold multiple things, and there's quite I mean you get quite a few cards in there. Um and they're only a couple of quid, but I think they're seven pounds, and it it takes it takes it inside. Uh, and then when you want to perform your trick, then I think I'll put a few less than that. So yeah, it all goes inside, you get your packet tricks in there. Uh, I'm gonna get a load of these because I'm gonna put all my all my packet tricks into these. Um yeah, and they're great, they're really yeah, they're really great. You can smell the faux leather, mate. I can smell the faux leather. So um, yeah, so that's uh that's the pouches. If you search on the Alakazan pouch, you will find them.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the packet packet trick pouch. So the um let's just say the the cinema, the guys at Ashford Cinema were fantastic. I mean, they went all out. We started discussing literally a year ago last week, was when we decided to do an Alexand convention. Um, and since then they have been so excited. The guys at the cinema were so excited. I saw them yesterday, we popped back in because we left some gear there, um, and they were just saying how overjoyed they were, how nice all the registrants were, and at various times I saw Lindsay or Ben sitting at a table with magicians um and watching magic, which was fantastic. But the staff there were incredible. I think a few of them ended up buying magic tricks because they were just obviously being shown magic all the time. It was great. We had Fred over from the um underperforming hobbyist YouTube channel, yeah, which was great. Um, yeah, so they absolutely loved it, but they've been totally behind this convention from day one. We had a meeting a few months ago where they said we've designed you your own Alakazam cocktails, come down for a tasting. So we went down, chose the ones we liked, they named them after Alakazam products, which was great. Um, they were just totally uh totally geared up and behind the convention. And then they did say to us, because all the movie posters now, they're all digital. So they change. It's gone are the days where you just have a poster in a frame and have to take it down. They're all digital. And they said, Yeah, you can take over all of them. So we did. We took them, we took them over, and I've got some of the images here. Now, bearing in mind, we didn't make a point of this, we didn't tell anyone this. They just spotted them, ran. I don't did you you saw them, Martin. I think everyone probably saw them.

SPEAKER_04

I did, yeah. Some people were saying uh and a lady cut to me and say, Um, somebody said something about a poster. And there's also been talking about it at the table, but I hadn't told her where it was. And I said, Yeah, if you look up there, and literally as I pointed it, my one came up.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so you if you're gonna show them, I think you need to give a warning.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

One of the marked both.

SPEAKER_03

Like we said, I'm gonna show one of Wayne here. And I was speaking to, I think I was speaking to Colin Miller at the time. And I said, Oh, have you seen the posters, Colin? He said, What posters? And I went, Oh, it's us in the posters. And he went, where are they? And I went, Oh, well, there's one of Wayne, and he said, Oh, I can see what you've done, you changed the colour of his glasses. So let me um let me show you the picture.

SPEAKER_04

The annoying thing there, Pete, is you hadn't, they were my blue glasses.

SPEAKER_03

Well, he it was only the glasses that really stood out to him. So let's show the picture that he was referring to. I'll bring that up now. There you go.

SPEAKER_05

So it's a glass, isn't it? I can see that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he couldn't differ. He stared at it for a while trying to see what had been ordered or anything else. Um so I've got them all here. Um and I will say as well, it was funny because Jamie designed them all, and um when they were coming up on rotation, I watched them a few times, and I realized that silly Jamie had forgot to send them his one. Oh yeah, so and I thought, how left out is he gonna feel? So I found his one, and then I sent it to Ben, who put it in the rotation. So we'll get back to Jamie's in a moment. Um but we had this one, which I really like. So this was all our artists for the weekend. The usual suspects. So that was up there. We've got obviously Mark Bennett, we've got Tom Wright, we've got the amazing David Jonathan, Mark Spellman, and of course Craig Petty, the usual suspects. We also had um Card Wars with our very own Andy Smith. Um we also had uh breakfast at Emma's with our very own Emma. Nice um I wasn't too fond of this one, but this was uh the grandfather of modern.

SPEAKER_04

That should have said that should have said thou shalt not perform the pass. Right? That's what that should have said.

SPEAKER_03

We had uh this is probably one of my favorites. That's good. Happy printer. That's good. We had Harry and Taylor. That's very good, that's a great one. Um which was great.

SPEAKER_05

I like the unbelievable across the middle as well.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, hang on, I'm missing one. Mikhaila. Yeah, I'm trying to find Makila's because she's not there. Where is she?

SPEAKER_06

Where is Makilah?

SPEAKER_03

Hang on one second and I will find I was about to say Andy and I got a special double one, didn't we? Okay, just hang on one second.

SPEAKER_04

I don't like that I'm looking miserable and Andy looked like he's having the time of his life, but I am quite pleased with how fit I look in that video.

SPEAKER_03

He looks like you over your neck, doesn't he? You had to carry him, didn't you? That's that's the thing.

SPEAKER_04

Don't I always, mate? That's the uh right, hang on one second.

SPEAKER_02

There's Mikla. Don't forget Jenny either. Yeah, I've got Jenny here, I believe.

SPEAKER_03

Uh right, so let's uh let's do oh, our very own Chris who was great, obviously.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's not gonna be disappointed with that picture, is he? No, and I get Shrek.

SPEAKER_03

I was gonna say you got the mate, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And obviously I just quickly say with Shrek, I had something else, I don't know what it was, but I had something else, and then Peter and I and Jenny and uh Tracy were out having a drink, and Tracy just dropped into conversation, she thought it was hilarious, and I should be Shrek, and then the next thing I know, my other one's gone, and uh replaced by uh that monstrosity. Yeah, I can't. What was your last one? I don't know, I never got to see it. Jamie showed me all of them apart from my one.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it was really cool. You had big muscles and you were flying. Yeah, it was really good, but we just didn't think it suited you.

SPEAKER_04

It was just it was just a normal picture of me then. Just a normal picture. You've got the guns out, okay.

SPEAKER_03

So there we go with Mikhaila.

SPEAKER_04

Again, she ain't gonna be disappointed with that picture, is she? Her and her and her and Chris got away with pretty pretty lightly with that. I thought Emma's one was really good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, did I show Emma's?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Just a quick one on the staff though. I mean, the food was really good as well, Peter. You know, it was anyway. It was tasty, so fair play too.

SPEAKER_04

I love that butter bottle. Have you got Jenny's? I have got Jenny.

SPEAKER_03

So the only one we haven't shown, I think. Oh, hang on, before I forget, and unfortunately, this uh staff member couldn't make it. I'd not seen that one.

SPEAKER_07

That's a good one.

SPEAKER_03

Um last but certainly by no means least, we have the one that Jamie forgot to send, but luckily I found it.

SPEAKER_07

Should we give a trigger warning first before yeah, if you are not just at lunch, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Um yeah. Do you know what, P when we sign out at the end, that should be on the screen for at least twenty five seconds.

SPEAKER_03

We should do that as our holding screen. That should be a thumbnail forever. That's the countdown screen.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Well look at your timer going down behind you, Peter.

SPEAKER_04

You're supposed to be working, Miss Gillingham.

SPEAKER_03

Right, let's have a look what is happening here. Yeah, a lot of people binging it up for the staff. The staff were great and it showed you you could see how much the staff enjoyed having the magicians about.

SPEAKER_04

It was nothing that wasn't too much trouble.

SPEAKER_05

It looked like it meant something to them. Obviously, it'd be nice to see. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, hundred percent. And it's it's all those little touches that obviously we can't control. We can't tell the staff, you know, to be because sometimes let's be honest, sometimes you go to a bar or you go to a place, and the staff are miserable. You know, you go to get a drink, and they are just miserable. And um, you know, this this place, it was just like they were really enjoying it. And the fact that the staff were going and buying themselves magic tricks, they were so excited. And obviously, we invited all the staff to to the evening garler as well. So we said, you know, if you're about we've got a seat for you and that. Um yeah, no, it was really good, really, really good. And I'd be interested to know um yeah, what everyone's favourite piece was.

SPEAKER_04

Can I um can I butt in here quickly, Pete, because we are running out of time, and I know that David would like to show here sorry, David Jonathan would like to uh I know the man uh was is is waiting patiently to do his effect.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, okay. So let me, yeah, we are running out of time. So let me bring uh David up full screen. So are we gonna do this with someone on the chat or do you want to do it with uh someone here? Oh, right there, okay. Well, I'm gonna pop over there then. No, I'll leave you two on if you want. Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it's gonna say bring David up uh full screen.

SPEAKER_03

Alright, so I'm going over there. Bear with me. Bear with.

SPEAKER_07

Do you have your phone with you? Uh yes, I do. And while we do that, everyone watching, if you have your phone or your computer, you can uh open up a web browser or iPad. It is uh interactive. You all can join in with the fun. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Alright. I have got my phone here. Hello, everybody, from the other end of the uh the house.

SPEAKER_07

Alright, so Pete, uh, do you know that Lego's running a contest right now? No. They actually are, you get to design your own Lego minifigure. It's pretty cool. And they created a website for inspiration. So uh can you take your phone, open up your browser, and everyone at home as well watching, go to brickmix.net. B-R-I-C-K M-I-X. Brick. Yeah, like Lego Brick. So brickmix. And let me know when you're there. Perfect. He's there. So just hold it up so everyone can see. This is the website you should be at at home. Yep. And map bar your phone does just show how it works. So this is kind of like a uh slot machine. So this is to tap here, here, and here, and you get all three spinning, and then you can stop on a head, stop on a body, and stop on legs, and you can like randomize this a whole bunch. There's over a hundred thousand combinations. So uh, you know, obviously the more you press this, the more it changes, if we can see that on camera, and all these possible combinations here. So, why don't you take yours back? And I want you to start the heads, body and leg spinning. And everyone who's watching, please do that as well, and then stop on each. Oh, one tap. And let's see who you got. So, can you hold up to the camera so you can see who people are?

SPEAKER_03

So it is a man with a beard. Uh, he's got a blue baseball jacket, is it? Is that a baseball jacket?

SPEAKER_07

I'd call it purple, but yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, purple. And some orange trousers might work.

SPEAKER_07

It's actually Emmett from the movies pants, I believe. So uh I can't see the chat right now, but hopefully everyone watching has a different minifigure, which I mean, given the odds one in 100,000, I'd imagine that'd be the case. So I'll just give it two more seconds for everyone to get off speed. So everyone should have something else here, but this was all about you, Peter.

SPEAKER_03

It's always all about me.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I've I've learned that. I've been here a week, believe me. I did online. Uh so this has been here from the start, a little envelope. Yeah. And we don't want this to there we go. Uh would you be impressed if that exact minifigure, a photo of him, was inside here? Yeah. That'd be pretty good, right? Yeah. Well, check it out right here. Uh his head is buried up here, his legs are down here in the middle, and uh, I think his body's in the corner over there. You see that? That's a bit.

SPEAKER_03

That's not that's not very good.

SPEAKER_07

No, that's not good. No. I can do a little bit better because can you hold this up so we can see what you got here? Because on the other side is, in fact, our same exact man with the hair, with the uh beard there, the purple shirt, the orange pants. That is our guy, and then just in case, this could also match like so.

SPEAKER_03

That is so cool. So, guys, if you get a ticket for tonight's academy, you will learn how to do this. And it's not an app.

SPEAKER_07

No, this is any borrowed phone. This is so easy, uh, so devious in its simplicity. And anytime, anywhere, if you just have this set as your lock screen, uh you can perform this on a moment's notice. It's no apps at all. I think you guys are gonna absolutely love this. And that is just one thing I'm teaching tonight. I think there are eight or nine effects in total, some of them which I've never taught before. Uh, I gave a little sneak peek over the weekend and got some incredible feedback. So uh yeah, if you guys are gonna join me tonight, I look forward to seeing you there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's great. Um, what did you guys think? Oh, you've got it. Amazing.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so I actually picked picked up on a Saturday. I had two gigs on a Sunday, using both of them, and it's absolutely brilliant. It's entertaining, it's magical, it's hard, and yeah, you used a borrowed phone, it ticks so many boxes. David Jonathan has done an amazing job creating that, and for you to get it for free tonight is just ridiculous. So, uh yeah, brilliant. Yeah, this I got it as well, it's great.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah, Wayne picked it up. Uh, this sold out in I think two hours at a convention. Yes, I was blown away. I was not expecting it to take off like that. So uh thank you everyone who supported it.

SPEAKER_05

And so yeah, it is it is like so it's just uh a fantastic effect. So I mean, yeah, I couldn't recommend it highly enough and say you get it for free tonight. It's just yeah, it's a steal. Absolute steal. I love it. Yeah, thank you, thank you. Seriously, and and as David said, you will learn that in like well, you'll be performing that in just a few minutes' time and having fun, and the more you perform it, the more you know, little jokes you'll put in there yourself. So uh yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and I mean I know it's a little broken here, but just to the the key thing is when you have a whole group of people, you're showing how it works, everyone's on there when that moment when everyone's holding up their phone and the whole group, everyone has a different Lego minifigure, except for the person you're performing it for, you predicted theirs. I mean, that's the real moment there, like you know, oh my god, everyone's was different. That's impossible. And then they can play on the site as long as they want, it'll they'll never get that same image again.

SPEAKER_03

And the the nice thing is as well, you're not having to do anything sneaky on their phone, you're not connecting it to your phone, you're not doing anything weird. You literally get them to go on the um go on the site, and it it's there. But and that that's the really clever thing is the fact that everyone can be doing it at the same time, everyone's gonna end up with something completely different.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I'm the short I'm the shorter guy, this is not a shortcut, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Honestly, and again, it's uh foolproof as well. I can't give it method away, but it's a little signal to prove by which person you know to do your part.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and uh the cool thing is because even if you burned me and did exactly what I did when I was holding the phone, you still wouldn't be able to recreate it. Because there is a little subtlety within there that just sets it apart. So yeah, yeah, brilliant. Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_03

I might try to do it online right now. Well, we're gonna be as soon as this uh live podcast is over, we are gonna be setting up for tonight's academy. So remember, we actually kick off at seven o'clock UK time, and for those that are watching from America, it's now coming up to three o'clock, so it will be four hours from now. So grab your tickets as soon as you purchase it. Go into your Academy section and you should see the holding screen for David Jonathan's Academy, and that's where we will be streaming tonight. So you just go in there. If it doesn't automatically start, you'll see it says live, just hit the play button.

SPEAKER_07

And Peter, get that shameless plug graphic up because uh that is just one of I think five new things that I'm debuting tonight. So cool.

SPEAKER_02

There you have it.

SPEAKER_05

Sounds amazing. If if it's just the one, it's worth it on its own to get five, it's just like amazing.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, there's eight total. That's just the new, new, new stuff, so yeah.

SPEAKER_04

The um I would say as well, when you go into your academy, underneath the uh the holding screen, um, you'll also see there's a chat box, and when it goes live, if you make sure you log in for that, you can then communicate with the people on the screen, ask questions, join in the conversation, um, just like you do with the Facebook and the YouTube comments. Um that's available on there as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, fantastic. So, Wayne, before we wrap up today, I I will say as well, we filmed uh two amazing products for Unlimited with David this week. Um so they'll be going up for Unlimited members over the coming weeks. Um we also filmed two amazing new releases from David Jonathan. Yes, which uh I think both of them are due out this year.

SPEAKER_04

Was one of them or both of them ones that we did in the shop the other day? Yes, ooo, very nice, very nice. Yeah, yeah, so I I was lucky enough to sit with David in the hotel on the Thursday night before the convention, and David showed me some of his stuff, and I I I I know David and I know his stuff is always amazing, but seeing him doing it live in front of me, I think Addie David do it, it was amazing. So, um yeah, it will be it will be great.

SPEAKER_07

I appreciate it.

SPEAKER_05

You guys are too kind. Also, can I just say I've I've got I've got a new one just being released on Unlimited as well, three Mendus. So it's which one is it, Martin? It's it's called Thremendous. So it's a triple card reveal, it's tremendous, and it's got the word three in it, and it's three mendus. So if you get a chance, it's not unlimited, check it out. And yeah, yeah, Jamie loved it and he put it as the first release of well for me for a few minutes.

SPEAKER_03

What's not to love? If it's got Martin Pierce's name on it, well's not to love.

SPEAKER_05

Well, it hasn't got a pointless trophy in here, but there we go.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so Wayne, before we wrap up, only two minutes left. Any other news we need to think about?

SPEAKER_04

Um, I don't think is there anything happening over the next week? Apart from the I mean, we're obviously not apart from, but tonight we've got the uh Academy. Is anything else happening next week?

SPEAKER_03

I will say we haven't got a live next Tuesday because I'm away and I don't return until Tuesday evening, so we haven't got a live. Um I will not dial in from the plane or something. No, I will be I will be busy um with Leo Schmetzers, no doubt performing magic to pretty much everyone we bump into because that's what Leo does. Um so we're gonna be doing that. Um I will say as well, we've had a lot of people asking for um tickets to next year's convention. Is it happening and everything else? So the convention is happening. Um maybe slightly different to this year, so there might be some changes, all will be announced soon. Still happening, same great venue. Um but we will be offering the tickets to those that came to the academy at to the convention this year. They will be offered the tickets before anyone else, and they are gonna have a week's worth of grace because as we know, the tickets are limited. We had to cap them off literally six months or eight months before the convention this year. Yeah, so you know, we had a waiting list going. A few people were lucky enough to grab tickets. Um, but we're gonna be offering them to people that uh came and supported us on the first year, they're gonna get first options on the ticket. So make sure you check your email because if you don't book it within the first week, then they go out to our whole mailing list.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you do well to top last year, Peter, but last year last week in. Two days ago. It seems like uh yeah, obviously.

SPEAKER_04

I will say as well, we had we had people, we had delegates for the convention from I don't mean just David Jonathan because he came over from America, but we had people from Canada, we had people from uh Australia, China, Australia. Friends, are the way from he was Germany, yeah, we had a few. Fred O came from Holland. Yeah, there were so many people that came along from different places. So uh yeah, don't don't think that oh well it's gonna be in England, it'll just be the English people, but it isn't. We've got people coming from everywhere, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So make you daddy tickets straight away. And we're we're actually very easy to get to from both Heathrow and Gatwick. You know, um you just get the Gatwick Express into London, then jump on the train from St. Pancras, and you're here. Oh, even Stanley. Yeah, lots of places. Oh, Stanstein. Yeah, yeah, just in the city airport.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Oh, you know what, you know, as well, just quickly referring to tickets for sale. Uh there are still tickets for sale for the Shindig in November. For the what? The Shindig. Yeah, there we go.

SPEAKER_03

You have to, Wayne, you have to warn me. As I said to you before, the plug has to go up before any mention of the Shindig.

SPEAKER_05

I'm coming to the Shindig as well, so good laugh.

SPEAKER_04

It's all right though, because the the sign is up.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, that's alright. I won't be coming now then. I'll be coming.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, I'll be coming. So someone has just asked for dates for next year. Um, we are hoping this is the date for your diary, the 8th of May. So it's gonna be the same weekend. We're gonna keep it to the same weekend. Um you get married white then. But um, yeah, we're unsure as to whether it's gonna be a one-day, two-day, or whatever. We're discussing it now. Just out of interest, before we go, just put your votes in. Would you have preferred, or not preferred it, but would you like it to be a two-day, one day? Let's get the um let's just get the little balance. And then because we are discussing, we've got some great ideas already for next year. We've got some great performers we're already in discussions with, great lecturers and garder show performers. Um so just a quick one or two, put it in the chat. Right, so far all votes say two. So like literally every every vote says two.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, not surprising as I say.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna answer this because can I look on Pete? How many wives has he got? So we chances are the show ticket will be separate. So it will be a separate add-on. But all will be revealed once um once we know. So only one, only one wife.

SPEAKER_04

And she's lovely, mate. I was talking to her, I was talking to her the convention, she's absolutely beautiful, lovely lady.

SPEAKER_03

Do you know what? It was an absolute pleasure meeting everyone there. Absolute pleasure. Um, and uh yeah, it was great. So we're we're still buzzing about it, we're still thinking about next year's, it's gonna be phenomenal. So, anyway, we've got to wrap up because David Jonathan has been sitting there for an hour, no work done on my clock. That ain't happening. That ain't happening straight back to work.

SPEAKER_04

Right, just cut down his rations for the evening.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, not good. Right, so we're gonna set up for tonight's uh academy, and then we're gonna go out and grab a cheeky Nando's, make sure uh David's uh you're gonna steal the chicken thing.

SPEAKER_04

What is that a thing? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's a magic wand with a chicken on the end of it. Oh, I'll get you grab me one.

SPEAKER_03

When I perform at gigs, I look at effects that tick these three boxes. Is it super strong and powerful? Yes. Will it last of your spectators for a lifetime? Absolutely. And does it leave them with a souvenir that perfectly captures the moment of magic? If that all sounds exactly what you're after, look no further than the liquid forks. These forks have been custom designed to be able to bend right in front of your spectators. Liquid forks routine taught by the world famous David Penn. Not only that, we have a subscription service. If you guys love these forks and you get through them at your gigs, we now offer a monthly subscription where you get sent a box through every single month at a 10% reduced fee. Like I said, you guys are gonna be loving these. You're gonna be performing them every chance you can. Trust me, the reactions are second to none. So, guys, head over to anakazam.co.uk, pick up a set of liquid forks, you will not regret it. Easy to do.
